JOHANNESBURG AIRPORT
(Official name: O.R. Tambo International Airport)

Johannesburg Airport, general information.

International travel can be a daunting affair for most travelers.  This section is included to give you a general idea of what to expect when you arrive in South Africa.

South Africa will be the host for the 2010 World Cup and a 3 year program to rebuild the airport and the highways to and from it for the expected large influx of visitors.  The information on this page will be helpful to all travelers, even if you have been there before, as new construction is being completed between now and 2010.

A new domestic terminal was completed in 2002 and work is ongoing with a new central terminal building which would link the international and domestic terminals.  The first phase of this terminal was opened to the public on September 5, 2008 and greatly expands the international arrival areas.  Work is currently ongoing on a new baggage management system and the new departures facility is expected to be operational in April 2009.  The following pictures are of portions of the new international arrival area.
