The Ostrich is the largest living bird and eats almost anything -- mammals, lizards, insects, other birds, fruit, plants, even stones and pieces of metal to aid digestion.  Ostrich do not bury their heads in the sand in moments of danger as legend says, but there is still some basis for the myth.  Instead of running away, ostrich chicks will often stretch out flat, feigning death.
